Dallas Center is approximately 20 miles west-northwest of Des Moines (about 25-30 minutes via Highway 44). Grimes is 9 miles east (about 12 minutes).

Since 2009, Dallas Center has been a trailhead on the 33-mile north loop of the Raccoon River Valley Trail (RRVT), which connects to nearly 90 miles of paved trails that reach Clive, Perry, Panora, and beyond.
